Toronto police are investigating a shooting incident at the US consulate early Tuesday morning, involving two suspects who fired weapons at the building before fleeing. The event, described by authorities as a “national security incident,” caused property damage but no reported injuries.
Shooting Details and Immediate Response
Deputy Chief Frank Barredo of the Toronto Police Service reported that around 4:30 a.m., two men exited a white Honda CR-V, which stopped in front of the consulate on University Avenue after traveling westbound on Dundas Street West. The suspects discharged firearms at the heavily fortified consulate building, resulting in broken glass and door damage. Police recovered multiple shell casings at the scene.
Despite the attack occurring while people were believed to be inside, no injuries were sustained. The suspects escaped in the white Honda CR-V, and police released an image of the vehicle to aid in the investigation.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team is collaborating with Toronto police, federal agencies, and US counterparts, including the FBI, to investigate the shooting. Chris Leather, chief superintendent overseeing criminal operations for the RCMP in Ontario, stated that it is too early to assess the motive or determine if the incident qualifies as terrorism under Canadian law.
Security has been heightened at the US and Israeli consulates in Toronto and the Ottawa region as a precaution. The US State Department confirmed close coordination with local authorities and said it is monitoring the situation.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford condemned the shooting as an “unacceptable act of violence and intimidation,” emphasizing zero tolerance for such behavior and pledging full prosecution of those responsible. He called for unified government action at all levels to address and prevent intimidation and threats targeting communities.
