Chad Alan-Carr, former mayor of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, was arrested on felony child sex abuse charges two weeks after resigning from office. Carr, 48, stepped down after less than a month as mayor, citing personal reasons unrelated to city business.
Charges and Allegations
According to Adams County District Attorney Brian Sinnett, Carr faces felony charges including sexual abuse of children and criminal solicitation to commit sexual abuse, along with a misdemeanor count of corruption of minors. The allegations stem from incidents between 2011 and 2013, when Carr allegedly solicited inappropriate material from a teenage boy while volunteering in the local theater community.
Sinnett stated that Carr groomed the victim before he turned 16, enticing the boy to share nude photos and videos. Limitations in the statute prevent additional charges from being filed for other alleged offenses. Carr was a volunteer at Gettysburg High School and served as executive director of the Gettysburg Community Theater during the alleged time frame.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Investigators interviewed several witnesses who reported inappropriate conduct by Carr; however, these accounts did not lead to further criminal charges. The victim, now an adult, disclosed that communication with Carr began on Facebook Messenger and Skype at age 16, evolving into sexual conversations until the boy was 17.
Carr is currently held on $100,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 20. Carr’s attorney declined to comment on the case.
