Benjamin Yoho, a public relations executive and husband of former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin, has formally requested an apology from Senate Democrats for allegations that his company improperly secured lucrative DHS contracts. In a letter sent Thursday to Sens. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Yoho challenged claims made by Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) during recent Senate hearings.
Dispute Over Contract Value and Role
During the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings, Schiff referenced a $143 million subcontract figure linked to Yoho’s firm, The Strategy Group for Media. Yoho clarified that his company received only $226,137.17 for video and audio production services, representing roughly one-tenth of one percent of the amount Schiff cited. He emphasized that The Strategy Group for Media did not contract directly with DHS but was subcontracted by Safe America Media LLC, which had the agency contract.
Connection to DHS Under Senate Scrutiny
The scrutiny originated amid discussions about a $220 million DHS advertising campaign that featured then-Secretary Kristi Noem. Democrats suggested that contracts related to the campaign may have benefited individuals connected to DHS. Yoho denied these implications and requested that the Senate Democrats withdraw their remarks and correct the official record.
Yoho’s wife, Tricia McLaughlin, served as the DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs until her departure in February 2026. The controversy intensified following Noem’s removal as DHS Secretary after President Donald Trump reportedly disagreed with her testimony regarding the agency’s advertising contracts.
Responses and Next Steps
Fox News Digital reached out to the offices of Senators Schiff, Blumenthal, and Welch for comment but had not received responses at the time of publication. The demand for an apology highlights ongoing tensions over government contract oversight and political accountability within the Senate.
