Matt Floca has been named the new president of the Trump Kennedy Center, succeeding Ric Grenell as the performing arts center prepares to suspend activities for a $257 million renovation project. The Trump Kennedy Center’s board is set to officially announce the leadership change and the temporary closure when it convenes Monday.
Leadership Shift Linked to Renovation Focus
Ric Grenell, who took over as president last February alongside his special envoy duties, is stepping down amid the center’s transition to a construction-focused phase. According to a person familiar with Grenell’s thinking, the shift aligns with President Donald Trump’s February statement on Truth Social that entertainment operations would pause for approximately two years to enable extensive renovations.
The source explained that the center is becoming “a construction zone,” and a leader with operational and facilities experience is better suited than Grenell, whose background is primarily in foreign policy.
Floca’s Background and Renovation Plans
Matt Floca currently serves as the vice president of facilities operations at the center. Trump highlighted Floca’s role in advancing progress toward “the highest level of Excellence” and confirmed that a complete reconstruction will begin after the July 4th celebration.
The renovation project’s $257 million budget was approved by Congress as part of Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” legislation last year. Trump also commended Grenell for coordinating various elements during the transition period but did not specify Grenell’s next role.
