Dallas police shot and killed a suspect who had worked as a security guard for Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett during a SWAT standoff at Children’s Medical Center Dallas on Wednesday night. The incident occurred after officers from the Dallas Police Department’s fugitive unit identified the man while investigating an active warrant.
Standoff and Police Response
The suspect barricaded himself inside a vehicle in a hospital parking garage around 11 p.m., prompting officers to deploy tear gas in an attempt to force him out. Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux reported that when the suspect exited the vehicle, he pointed a firearm at officers. Police returned fire, fatally wounding him. The suspect did not fire his weapon, and no officers were injured during the exchange.
Suspect’s Background and Allegations
Law enforcement sources told FOX 4 Dallas that the man had worked on Rep. Crockett’s security detail in both Washington, D.C., and Texas, including at her campaign events during the Democratic Senate primary. The suspect was wanted for impersonating a law enforcement officer and allegedly used multiple aliases, including “Mike King.” CBS News reported he claimed to recruit off-duty officers for security jobs under false pretenses and drove a replica undercover law enforcement vehicle with stolen license plates.
The suspect also supervised security teams at several downtown Dallas hotels and a church. Authorities continue to investigate, and the Dallas Police Department and Crockett’s office have yet to provide official statements on the incident.
