Iranian Americans Protest Pro-Regime Socialists Near White House

About 500 Iranian Americans supporting regime change in Iran marched near the White House on March 7, 2026, confronting a smaller group of far-left socialists backing Iran’s clerical regime. The protesters advocating for a secular democracy carried dogs and walked without headscarves, defying social norms imposed by the Islamic Republic.

Clashing Demonstrations Over Iran’s Future

The Iranian American group, organized by the National Solidarity Group for Iran, opposed the religious ruling establishment, describing it as a “religious mafia regime.” Holding signs and accompanied by pets, participants called for freedom and secular governance in Iran.

Opposite them, pro-China socialist groups rallied under signs reading “STOP WAR IN IRAN,” supporting the clerical regime. An analysis by Fox News Digital identified over 75 organizations backing the regime, including far-left Marxist and Islamist groups. These activists have been coordinating protests across 63 U.S. cities in 29 states and Washington, D.C., using uniform signs and chants.

Influence of Chinese-Backed Socialist Networks

The protests supporting Iran’s clerical leaders are reportedly funded by Neville Roy Singham, an American-born tech businessman based in Shanghai. His network includes the People’s Forum Inc., ANSWER Coalition, Party for Socialism and Liberation, and other socialist-Islamist groups.

U.S. House committees have accused this network of promoting Chinese Communist Party interests. Singham did not respond to requests for comment, and the affiliated organizations also declined to comment.

Global Iranian Diaspora Response

The confrontations in Washington reflect a wider contest in Iranian diaspora communities worldwide, including cities like Phoenix, Dallas, Indianapolis, Toronto, and Manchester. Iranian Americans emphasize secular democracy as a counter to both theocratic rule and extremism influenced by Islamist ideologies.

This conflict echoes historical tensions, notably described in a 1965 Time magazine article that termed the cooperation between communist and radical Islamist forces in Iran an “unholy alliance.” The current disputes highlight continuing ideological divisions within Iranian communities abroad over the country’s political future.
