Charlotte Police Arrest Illegal Immigrant for Murder in Apartment

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrested 23-year-old Lhis Birito Costa on murder charges after discovering the decomposing body of her girlfriend, 26-year-old Evelin Carolina Enamorado-Cisnado, hidden in a closet at an east Charlotte apartment. The discovery came during a welfare check prompted by a DoorDash driver’s report on Tuesday afternoon.

Investigation Uncovers Hidden Victim

Officers responded to the welfare check Tuesday after receiving a call that someone inside the apartment might be deceased. Upon entering, investigators found Enamorado-Cisnado’s body behind a door in a closet, concealed under several towels and showing signs of decomposition. Court documents indicate Costa told police she shot Enamorado-Cisnado after learning her girlfriend was involved with another person.

Legal Proceedings and ICE Detainer

Costa was arrested Wednesday and interviewed by homicide detectives at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Law Enforcement Center. She was subsequently charged with murder and held without bond following her initial court appearance Thursday. The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Costa remains in custody and that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on her, requiring notification before any potential release.
