NYC Taxi Mounts Sidewalk, Hits Two Women Outside Bodega

A New York City taxi veered off a Manhattan street on March 14, 2026, mounting the sidewalk and striking two women outside a bodega in the Lower East Side. Surveillance footage captured the taxi crashing into the storefront, damaging the building and scattering debris across the sidewalk.

Police reported the 25-year-old driver was attempting a turn when the vehicle jumped the curb and collided with the pedestrians. Both victims, aged 24 and 25, survived the crash and were hospitalized in stable condition. One woman was found lying beneath the taxi, while the other was reportedly thrown into the bodega’s basement through a street-level opening, sustaining no serious injuries.

Two passengers, both aged 24, were also in the cab during the incident. After the crash, a back-seat passenger struggled to exit due to debris blocking the cab doors. Authorities have not made any arrests as investigations continue.

The impact severely damaged the bodega’s storefront, toppling flower displays and scattering debris. Bystanders arrived on the scene shortly after the crash to assist and assess the situation. Police tape remains around the damaged taxi and storefront as cleanup and investigation proceed.
