Mathew Thomas Becker, a 61-year-old Alaska resident and comedy club owner, died following a shooting spree that left his former father-in-law dead and his ex-wife wounded in Anchorage on March 14, 2026. Authorities launched a manhunt after Becker shot his ex-wife outside her hair salon and then fatally shot Romaine Clark inside a nearby home.
Shooting Incident and Victims
According to police reports and a criminal complaint, Becker confronted his ex-wife as she arrived at her business in Anchorage. He exited a vehicle and fired shots at her while she was unlocking the salon doors. She managed to hide and called 911 to report the attack and express concern for Clark’s safety. Shortly afterward, officers found Clark with fatal gunshot wounds inside his Alder Drive residence. Police stated Becker fired multiple rounds through a window before fleeing.
Manhunt and Discovery of Becker’s Body
Following the shootings, Anchorage police conducted a manhunt for Becker throughout the area. His body was discovered the next day around 10:30 a.m. in a wooded area of Eagle River, Alaska. Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause or manner of his death.
Background on Becker
Becker, who owned the Chuckleheads comedy club in Bisbee, Arizona, reportedly had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. He had moved to Arizona following his divorce but had returned to Alaska prior to the incident. Becker faced charges of first-degree murder and third-degree assault related to the shootings.
