Law enforcement sources have identified a masked man seen on Nancy Guthrie’s front steps three weeks before her suspected abduction in Tucson, Arizona. Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, reportedly disappeared in the early hours of February 1, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Surveillance Footage Provides Key Dates for Investigation
The FBI released surveillance images recovered from Guthrie’s Nest doorbell camera on February 10. One image was taken on January 11, three weeks before her disappearance, while others were from dates closer to the incident. Authorities have requested that neighbors review home security footage covering January 1 through February 2, focusing on January 11, January 24, and the night surrounding the disappearance.
Neighbors also reported sightings of suspicious activity. A local resident recalled observing a man in mid-January unfamiliar with typical walking attire, with his hat drawn low over his eyes. Another resident mentioned a suspicious vehicle on January 31 near Guthrie’s neighborhood, though no official description of the vehicle was provided.
Profile of the Masked Suspect
The masked individual is described by FBI analysts as approximately 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build. He was seen wearing a black Ozark Trail backpack and possibly carrying a holstered pistol near his groin, though the presence of the holster and backpack vary across different images.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has not publicly confirmed all details related to the suspect’s appearance or the significance of the dates under investigation. Efforts to identify the man and determine his potential connection to Guthrie’s disappearance are ongoing.
