Three men, including a California attorney, have been charged following an alleged antisemitic assault on March 8 at Santana Row, a high-end shopping area in San Jose, California. The suspects—Bruneil Henry Chamaki, 32, of Morgan Hill, and brothers Roma and Ramon Akoyans—turned themselves in after police secured arrest warrants, San Jose police confirmed.
Assault Details and Charges
The attack occurred outside the Augustine restaurant during daylight hours as two Israeli-American men were waiting for a table. According to police and court documents, the victims reported that the suspects used antisemitic slurs, including the phrase “F— Jews,” before physically assaulting them. Video footage shows one victim being punched and kicked on the ground for approximately 20 seconds. Another victim sustained head and elbow injuries. Bystanders reportedly intervened verbally during the assault, with some hearing additional shouted phrases like “Don’t f— with Iran.”
Prosecutors have filed a combination of felony and misdemeanor assault and battery charges against the suspects. They are scheduled for arraignment on May 12. While hate crime charges have not yet been filed, the investigation remains active.
Investigation and Community Response
Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen emphasized the need for public safety in open spaces, stating, “We won’t tolerate pummeling a victim on the ground in front of a restaurant or anywhere.” San Jose police credited surveillance video, social media evidence, and public tips with identifying the suspects. Authorities continue to work closely with prosecutors as the case advances through the criminal justice process.
