The airstrike occurred amid an intensifying military campaign between Pakistan and Afghanistan that has lasted over three weeks. Pakistan says it targets bases of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a militant group responsible for terrorist attacks in Pakistan that operates along the Afghan border. The Taliban government has condemned the strikes as violations of Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
The United Nations reported that the conflict has displaced more than 115,000 people, damaged or destroyed over 300 shelters, and closed or disrupted at least 25 health facilities. The hospital strike is among the deadliest incidents, causing widespread civilian casualties including children.

Pakistan denies targeting a hospital and says its strikes target militant infrastructure, including a weapons depot at Camp Phoenix in Kabul. He suggested that reports of hitting a hospital may stem from secondary explosions of stored weapons.
The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the reported strike through a spokesperson, calling for an independent investigation into the incident. However, some analysts and human rights advocates criticized the international response as muted compared to previous condemnations of strikes by the U.S. or Israel, highlighting what they describe as inconsistency in global reactions to civilian casualties in conflict zones.
