University of Alabama Student James Gracey Missing in Barcelona

James Gracey, a 20-year-old University of Alabama student from Elmhurst, Illinois, has been reported missing during a spring break trip in Barcelona, Spain. Gracey was last seen at approximately 3 a.m. on March 17 near the Shoko nightclub after visiting friends studying abroad, according to his family.

Last Known Whereabouts and Search Efforts

Gracey was seen leaving the Shoko waterfront restaurant and nightclub, a popular venue overlooking the Mediterranean. His mother, Therese Gracey, said he was separated from friends late at night and never returned to their rented Airbnb on Ronda de Sant Pere, a central street in Barcelona. The last photo released shows him wearing a white T-shirt, dark joggers, and a gold chain with a rhinestone cross.

The family confirmed that local police recovered Gracey’s phone during the arrest of another individual, though it has not provided further leads. Gracey’s father, Taras Gracey, has traveled to Barcelona to assist in the search and is coordinating with Catalan authorities. The family is also in contact with the U.S. State Department.
