Elizabeth Warren Endorses Graham Platner in Maine Senate Primary

Senator Elizabeth Warren has endorsed Democratic candidate Graham Platner in Maine’s crucial June Senate primary, positioning him as a progressive alternative to Governor Janet Mills. Platner’s campaign emphasizes his background as an oyster farmer and combat veteran, framing him as an outsider prepared to challenge Washington’s political establishment.

Warren highlighted Platner’s refusal to accept corporate PAC money and praised his military service in Iraq and Afghanistan. In a video statement released Wednesday, she called him “a fighter on behalf of working families” and said he would pursue needed policy changes rather than “go along to get along.”

The endorsement arrives as Platner faces increased scrutiny over past controversies. The Mills campaign recently ran large-scale ads spotlighting Platner’s decade-old Reddit posts containing crude remarks and a tattoo that resembles a Nazi symbol. Platner has apologized for the posts and addressed the tattoo. Warren told HuffPost that she believes Platner’s apology is sincere and noted he is actively engaging with voters across Maine.

The winner of the primary will challenge Republican Sen. Susan Collins in the November general election. Collins is Maine’s last remaining Republican senator and is seeking a sixth term in a state that has not supported Donald Trump in past presidential elections. With control of the Senate narrowly held by Republicans, Democrats see Maine as a key battleground and have directed significant resources to the race.
