Jeffrey Epstein’s longtime personal lawyer, Darren Indyke, told the House Oversight Committee he was unaware of any relationship between Epstein and President Donald Trump, Committee Chairman Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) said Thursday. Indyke’s testimony came during a closed-door session as part of the committee’s ongoing investigation into Epstein’s criminal activities and associates.
Lawyer’s Testimony on Epstein’s Crimes and Trump Ties
Indyke stated he had no knowledge of Epstein’s sexual crimes prior to their public exposure and denied involvement in any wrongdoing. Comer noted that, like other witnesses, Indyke claimed ignorance about Epstein’s illegal conduct before it became public. Following Epstein’s 2008 conviction, Indyke said Epstein expressed remorse and assured him such behavior would not continue.
When questioned about any connection between Epstein and Trump, Indyke again denied awareness of any relationship. This aligns with previous testimony by Richard Kahn, Epstein’s former accountant and co-executor of his estate, who said he was not aware of any financial transactions between Trump and Epstein. Comer also cited former President Bill Clinton’s deposition, in which Clinton said Trump never indicated knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.
Democratic Response and Ongoing Investigation
Democrats on the committee challenged Indyke’s testimony, with Rep. Dave Min (D-Calif.) expressing suspicion that Indyke might have perjured himself. Min pointed to accounts from women who claimed Indyke assisted them, suggesting knowledge of Epstein’s misconduct. Comer rejected assertions of a cover-up, stating the Republican-led committee’s witnesses have refuted claims of Trump’s liability.
The investigation continues, with Comer promising to keep pressing witnesses on their knowledge of Epstein’s activities. Indyke did not invoke the Fifth Amendment during his testimony, as other witnesses have.
