Two individuals were arrested near His Majesty’s Naval Base Clyde in Scotland on March 19, 2026, after allegedly attempting to enter the facility without proper authorization, Police Scotland confirmed.
According to Police Scotland, a 34-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman were detained for allegedly acting suspiciously in the vicinity of the naval base, commonly known as Faslane. The Telegraph identified the man as Iranian, while the woman’s nationality remains unknown. Both suspects were reportedly turned away for lacking the required passes before their arrest.
HM Naval Base Clyde is the United Kingdom’s principal base for its nuclear submarine fleet and hosts the core of the Royal Navy Submarine Service, including the nation’s nuclear deterrent. The base operates nine submarines: five Astute-class nuclear-powered attack submarines and four Vanguard-class ballistic missile submarines carrying the UK’s Trident missile system.
A Royal Navy spokesperson confirmed the arrests but declined further comment due to the ongoing investigation.
This incident is notable because HMNB Clyde serves as the home to the UK’s nuclear-armed submarine fleet, representing a critical component of the country’s defense infrastructure. Police and Royal Navy officials are continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the attempted base entry.
