The Department of Justice has launched an investigation into nonprofit organizations allegedly involved in funding political violence linked to Antifa, sources told Fox News Digital. The probe, directed by President Donald Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi, involves cooperation between the FBI and IRS.
The inquiry follows a memorandum issued by Trump in September citing concerns over politically motivated violence allegedly orchestrated by self-identified Antifa members and potentially supported by organized nonprofit campaigns. Bondi’s December memorandum instructed federal law enforcement to examine Antifa’s funding streams and possible tax violations by extremist groups.
A DOJ source confirmed that all U.S. attorney offices have been ordered to designate a federal prosecutor as a district coordinator to oversee cases arising from this investigation. The DOJ emphasized a focus on financial conduits that may facilitate instances of domestic terrorism.
The probe builds on recent DOJ successes, including convictions of nine Texas Antifa cell members involved in an armed attack on an ICE facility. The IRS Criminal Investigation unit confirmed its collaboration with the FBI under National Security Presidential Memorandum 7 (NSPM-7), targeting individuals and entities suspected of financing domestic terrorism and political violence.
The DOJ noted it will not investigate protected First Amendment activities and reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lawful free speech while prosecuting criminal conduct consistent with federal domestic terrorism statutes. The FBI declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.
