An Oklahoma man with a criminal history was arrested on March 14 after allegedly breaking into a family’s home in Oklahoma City and climbing into bed with an 11-year-old child while the family slept. Charles Bradford, 46, was charged with first-degree burglary and five misdemeanors, according to KOKH.
The incident occurred when Josh Hodnik was awakened by his son, who told him there was a stranger in his bed. Initially doubting the claim, Hodnik confirmed an adult male was lying in the child’s bed, reportedly holding his own blanket and wearing one sock without shoes.
Hodnik acknowledged the family’s front door had been left unlocked after the children played outside the previous evening, a factor he cited as enabling the break-in.
Bradford’s criminal record includes multiple arrests for assault and larceny. Notably, he was convicted in 2002 of first-degree manslaughter for killing his cellmate while in prison. Hodnik criticized the justice system for allowing Bradford, a repeat offender, to remain free.
Following the latest arrest, Oklahoma City officials said Bradford had previously pleaded into mental health court, where treatment and stability were considered beneficial. Authorities are reevaluating his eligibility for continued participation due to the new charges.
Bradford is currently held at the Cleveland County Detention Center on a $75,000 bond. The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office has not yet commented on the case.
