Texas Woman Reports Meteorite Crash Through Roof Near Houston

A mysterious boom rattled homes across the Houston area on Saturday, followed by a Texas woman claiming a suspected meteorite crashed through her roof, creating a large hole and leaving behind a football-sized rock.

Fire Department Response and Witness Accounts

The Brenham Fire Department responded to reports of a possible explosion near Highway 50 but found no evidence of an explosion on site. Witnesses described seeing a green flash fall from the sky accompanied by black smoke and a loud boom. Fire officials noted that the noise and sighting were consistent with a potential meteor event.

Suspected Meteorite Evidence and Meteor Society Reports

Sherrie James contacted local authorities and FOX 26 after the blast, reporting that an “unusual rock” had pierced her ceiling and flooring. Photographs show a large, black exterior rock approximately the size of a football, with visible damage to her home. The surrounding area had no nearby construction or trees, supporting the fire department’s assessment that the rock was likely meteor debris.

The American Meteor Society logged over 100 reports of a “fireball event” over Texas that day, with eyewitness durations ranging from 1.5 to 7.5 seconds. Experts have not yet validated the reports.

Ongoing Investigation and Damage Assessment

Aside from James’ property, no other damage from the event has been confirmed. Officials and meteor experts continue to investigate the origin and impact of the suspected meteorite. Residents expressed concern on social media about the unexplained blast and object.
