The U.S. Border Patrol’s San Diego Sector arrested two Mexican nationals in California who are fugitives wanted for serious crimes in Mexico, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed.
Details of the Arrests and Charges
On February 26, agents arrested Silvia Del Rosario Torres-Castro in Anaheim, California. Torres-Castro faces homicide charges in Mexico. She entered the United States illegally in December 2023 through the Imperial Beach Border Patrol Station during the Biden administration. After her arrest, she was handed over to Mexico’s Fiscalía General de la República (FGR).
On March 6, agents arrested Salvador Suazo-Garcia in Lemon Grove, California. Suazo-Garcia is wanted in Mexico for lewd and lascivious acts upon a child. Unlike Torres-Castro, Suazo-Garcia entered the U.S. legally in May 2021, but his visa was later revoked due to the criminal charges. He was processed and transferred to Mexican authorities following the arrest.
DHS Statement and Enforcement Context
DHS Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis highlighted that the two suspects were allowed to live freely in the U.S. despite their criminal backgrounds abroad. Bis stated that nearly 70% of individuals arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) have criminal convictions or pending charges within the U.S., a figure not including those wanted for violent or severe crimes outside the country.
Both individuals are now in Mexico to face prosecution for their respective charges, with DHS crediting law enforcement efforts for their capture and transfer.
