California Deputies Arrest 9 in $7M Cargo Theft Bust

California law enforcement arrested nine suspects linked to a cargo theft ring after seizing roughly $7 million in stolen merchandise and about $1 million in cash, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced.

Multi-Agency Investigation Leads to Multiple Arrests

Detectives served 13 search warrants at locations across Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties between December and February. The operation was part of a broader multi-agency probe targeting organized crime involved in cargo theft.

The suspects face charges including grand theft cargo, money laundering, and receiving stolen property.

Recovered Cargo Spans Numerous Retailers

The stolen goods recovered included televisions, kitchen appliances, printers, soundbars, Ring security cameras, air conditioning units, tools, pool equipment, golf carts, ATVs, plush toys, clothing, shoes, energy drinks, liquor, and cosmetics.

At least 36 companies were targeted in the scheme, such as JB Hunt, Amazon, Sony, LG, T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Costco, Wolff Shoes, Monster Energy, and Disney.

Ongoing Efforts to Combat Cargo Theft

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department established the Organized Retail Crimes Task Force in 2023 to address incidents like these. Authorities urge anyone with information about cargo theft to contact this task force.
