House Democrat Pete Aguilar Questions Probe Into Jasmine Crockett’s Security Guard Hiring

Rep. Pete Aguilar, a top House Democrat from California, has expressed skepticism about launching a congressional investigation into Rep. Jasmine Crockett’s hiring of a security guard who was later killed by Dallas SWAT officers amid a standoff. Aguilar told Fox News Digital he is uncertain if investigating Crockett’s staffing decisions falls within the House’s jurisdiction.

Details of Security Guard’s Employment and Fatal Incident

Diamon-Mazairre Robinson, 39, who used the alias “Mike King” while working for Crockett, was fatally shot by Dallas SWAT officers earlier in March. Police were executing an active warrant related to Robinson allegedly impersonating law enforcement and recovered 11 firearms during the operation, including some reported stolen. Crockett’s office paid Robinson at least $6,300 in 2025 from her members’ representational allowance (MRA), a budget funded by taxpayer dollars for staff and operational costs. Additionally, Crockett’s House campaign account disbursed $340 to Robinson for security services that year.

Responses and Committee Considerations

Aguilar indicated that any inquiry would depend on whether campaign or MRA funds were misused, which could prompt an investigation by the House Administration Committee. He also noted that Republicans may be unlikely to pursue a formal probe since Crockett recently lost her Texas Senate primary.

Crockett has denied wrongdoing, stating her office followed all protocols in hiring Robinson and that no red flags emerged during his employment. She attributed the incident to flaws in the vetting process, explaining that Robinson did not have a violent criminal record despite multiple arrests for theft and probation violations. The congresswoman declined further comment, referring inquiries to a prior public statement.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said Republicans are reviewing the facts and indicated a willingness to consider tightening vetting procedures for security staff. Rep. James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, has not confirmed whether Republicans will pursue an investigation. Meanwhile, some Democrats, including Rep. James Walkinshaw, have called for stronger vetting standards for members’ security hires.
