Two Arrested After US Park Police Officer Shot in Washington DC

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) arrested two individuals following the shooting of a U.S. Park Police officer Monday night in southeast Washington, D.C. Darren Foster, 21, was apprehended shortly after the incident, and Asheile Foster, 22, was taken into custody Tuesday. Both face charges of assault on a federal police officer with a firearm.

Shooting Incident and Officer’s Condition

The shooting occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. while the officer was investigating a Park Police incident from an unmarked Tesla vehicle. Two armed men reportedly approached the vehicle and fired multiple shots, striking the officer in the upper body. Despite his injuries, he was able to drive away and was later transported by the Park Police aviation unit to a local hospital. Authorities confirmed the officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released from medical care.

Investigation and Law Enforcement Response

MPD is conducting the investigation with support from its NIBIN Investigations Unit, which includes agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and U.S. Park Police detectives. Officials reported evidence suggesting the suspects were aware the individual in the Tesla was a law enforcement officer, though no motive has been disclosed. Following the shooting, officers executed a raid at a residence near the scene on Tuesday, deploying a K-9 unit and entering with firearms drawn.
