DHS Identifies Illegal Immigrant in Fatal New Jersey Hit-and-Run

Wilson “Adrian” Morocho-Necta, 33, an illegal immigrant from Ecuador, has been charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash in Morristown, New Jersey, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed. Morocho-Necta allegedly struck and killed 68-year-old Justo Pilco-Tenesaca on March 19 before fleeing the scene on foot.

Suspect’s Immigration and Legal Status

The DHS stated Morocho-Necta entered the U.S. illegally through the southern border in 2019. After being issued a final order of removal by an immigration judge, he was removed to Mexico but later reentered the country unlawfully at an unknown location and time. Morocho-Necta is currently considered a fugitive, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is actively attempting to locate him.

Details of the Crash and Charges

Morocho-Necta was driving a truck owned by HC Home Improvement & Construction at the time of the crash, which resulted in Pilco-Tenesaca being pinned under the vehicle. Emergency responders rushed the victim to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Morocho-Necta faces charges for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and endangering an injured victim by fleeing.

Local Law Enforcement and Sanctuary Policy

New Jersey’s Immigrant Trust Directive, a “sanctuary” policy, restricts local police cooperation with federal immigration authorities. The directive aims to maintain community trust and encourage crime reporting among immigrant populations. Morristown officials have not issued a public comment on the incident. HC Home Improvement’s owner expressed shock over the fatal crash.
