Israel Flores Ortiz, an 18-year-old illegal immigrant from El Salvador, is facing new charges after multiple female students at a Fairfax County high school reported being inappropriately touched. Flores Ortiz was initially charged with nine counts of assault and battery following incidents at Fairfax High School.
Additional Charges Filed After More Victims Come Forward
Fairfax County police announced that four more counts were added after further investigation and additional victims reported similar assaults. Authorities were first alerted on March 5 by the school about these incidents. Flores Ortiz surrendered to law enforcement on March 7, and he remains held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
Immigration Status and Detainer Filed
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed Flores Ortiz is an illegal immigrant who arrived in the U.S. in 2024. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has filed a detainer requesting his removal. DHS urged Fairfax County to honor this detainer to prevent further potential offenses.
Community and School Response
Fairfax County Public Schools stated they prioritize student safety and are working with law enforcement to investigate all reports thoroughly, while citing privacy laws limiting specific comments. Parents expressed concern about safety on campus, with some describing the incidents as “terrifying” and “distraught” about the risk to their children during school hours.
