Jurors Shown Rock and Video in Hawaii Doctor’s Attempted Murder Trial

Jurors in the trial of Hawaii anesthesiologist Gerhardt Konig were presented Wednesday with a bloodstained rock and body camera footage depicting his wife’s injuries, as the prosecution tied physical evidence to allegations he attempted to kill her during a hike last year.

Evidence and Testimony Detail Alleged Cliffside Attack

The trial centers on the March 24, 2025, incident on Oahu’s Pali Puka Trail, where prosecutors say Konig struck his wife, Arielle Konig, with a rock and tried to force her off a cliff. On Tuesday, Arielle Konig testified that her husband attacked her on her birthday hike, repeatedly hitting her head with a rock and attempting to push her over the edge.

Body camera footage shown to jurors documented the scene shortly after the attack, capturing Arielle Konig bloodied and disoriented as bystanders helped her. Prosecutors displayed the rock believed to have been used in the assault as physical evidence.

Defense Challenges Attempted Murder Allegation

Konig’s defense attorney argued the incident was an unplanned confrontation rather than attempted murder, highlighting relationship strain and disputing the prosecution’s narrative. The defense pointed to Arielle Konig’s acknowledgment of an emotional relationship with a coworker, suggesting the event escalated from a fight.

Arielle Konig countered this characterization in her testimony, describing the incident as “an attack versus a scuffle.” Jurors must now evaluate whether the evidence indicates intentional attempted murder or a spontaneous altercation.
