A 24-year-old Santa Monica man, Alexander Schecter, was arrested on March 20 and faces multiple felony charges, including rape by force, forcible oral copulation, kidnapping, extortion, robbery, and battery. Schecter allegedly trapped two UCLA students in his car near campus on March 8, preventing them from exiting and threatening violence.
Police say the victims, both female UCLA students, were driven about half a mile before being released near Gayley Avenue. Detectives identified Schecter shortly after the incident and took him into custody at his residence. Bail was initially set at $600,000, and records indicate he has since been released.
During the investigation, authorities uncovered evidence linking Schecter to an earlier unreported sexual assault on an adult woman unaffiliated with UCLA. This assault reportedly occurred on October 12, 2025, near Venice Boulevard and Clarington Avenue in Los Angeles. Police confirmed the attack and developed probable cause for the additional charges.
UCLA Police and investigators believe there may be more potential victims and are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the UCLA Police Department. Officials have stated that Schecter has no known affiliation with the university. The case will be submitted to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution consideration.
It remains unclear whether Schecter has legal representation at this time.
