An off-duty Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) superintendent has been charged with murder after an American worker was fatally shot in Nassau, the Bahamas, officials confirmed. The incident took place on March 21 outside Da Plantation Bar & Grill.
The victim, identified as Cody Castillo, 31, from Crawfordville, Florida, was employed as a lineman with Pike Electric and was in the Bahamas for work. Castillo’s wife is pregnant with their first child, due in August.
RBPF Superintendent Berneil Pinder, 51, was arrested and arraigned on murder charges related to the shooting. National Security Minister Wayne Munroe said authorities are conducting a criminal investigation using CCTV footage from the scene. Munroe indicated that, depending on the evidence, the case may either proceed with criminal charges or a coroner’s inquest.
The U.S. State Department confirmed Castillo’s death and stated it is closely monitoring the investigation by Bahamian authorities. A spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Nassau urged the Bahamian government to ensure justice is served promptly, highlighting concerns reported in media that the officer followed the unarmed Castillo to his vehicle before shooting.
Further details about the shooting circumstances and the investigation outcome have not been released. Fox News Digital has sought additional comment from the Royal Bahamas Police Force and Pike Corporation.
A GoFundMe established for Castillo describes the victim as a dedicated worker supporting his family abroad and calls his death “senseless violence.”
