Texas Teen Charged with Murder While Free on Multiple Bonds

Johnnie Lillie, a 19-year-old Houston resident, has been charged with the shooting death of 29-year-old Jermarkus Johnson on September 22, 2025, while out on probation and three separate bonds, according to Houston media reports.

Criminal History and Legal Status

Lillie was on probation following a June 2024 conviction for burglary of a motor vehicle when he was arrested for allegedly illegally purchasing a firearm. Despite facing charges including possession of a machine gun—a prohibited weapon—and new burglary allegations, Lillie was released multiple times on bond. Court documents reportedly show he violated bond conditions at least six times during this period.

Supervision and System Failures

While under supervision by both the county probation department and pretrial services, Lillie remained free on two bonds and ongoing probation. Advocates and victim service officials criticized the justice system for failing to revoke his bond or probation despite repeated violations. Andy Kahan, director of victim services for Houston’s Crime Stoppers, indicated that revoking Lillie’s probation or bond could have prevented the fatal shooting.

Current Status and Legal Proceedings

Lillie remains in custody with a $250,000 bond set following the murder charge. The Harris County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet issued a public comment on the case.
