A Honolulu courtroom viewed graphic police body camera footage on Wednesday showing Arielle Konig, a woman covered in blood, after an alleged attack on a remote Hawaii hiking trail. Witnesses testified that Konig screamed for help, claiming her anesthesiologist husband, Gerhardt Konig, was trying to kill her.
The video begins after two hikers called 911, reporting the victim’s cries. Police arrived to find Konig approaching slowly, visibly injured and disoriented. Bystanders assisted her, applying a bandage and helping her remain conscious near a rocky area.
Honolulu officer Kevin Chun testified that Konig appeared exhausted, short of breath, and confused while attempting to communicate through hand gestures despite blood running down her face. Prosecutors allege Gerhardt Konig tried to force her off the trail, repeatedly struck her head with a rock, and attempted to inject her with a syringe.
Evidence and Police Pursuit
Photographs introduced in court showed blood on leaves and the ground, a trail break described as a “hole in the bush,” and the nearby cliff edge. Investigators recovered multiple pieces of evidence, including a blood-stained rock, clothing, swabs with suspected blood stains, a backpack with personal items and a cellphone, and a second bag containing alleged medical supplies connected to the defendant.
Officer Chauncey Nicola testified about spotting Gerhardt Konig with blood on his shirt while driving an unmarked van. A chase ensued, during which Konig ran from brush onto a roadway before officers restrained him after he resisted arrest. Police used force to control him.
Trial and Charges
Lead investigator Asten Koki detailed the ongoing investigation and evidence collection. Gerhardt Konig has pleaded not guilty to all charges related to the incident. The trial is scheduled to continue on Friday.
