Senator Ted Cruz described President Donald Trump’s decision to launch military strikes against Iran as the most consequential action of his presidency. In a Fox News Digital interview, Cruz said the U.S. is “unquestionably winning the war” with Iran following the strikes alongside Israeli forces.
Military Impact of the Strikes
Cruz detailed that the U.S. military has executed over 9,000 strikes targeting Iran’s air defenses, ballistic missile launchers and manufacturing capacities, drone systems, and naval vessels. He stated that 140 Iranian ships have been sunk—the largest naval loss since World War II—and highlighted the reported deaths of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and key military leaders. According to Cruz, these actions represent a “profound victory” that has substantially weakened Iran’s military capabilities.
Cruz’s Role in Decision-Making
The Texas senator recalled spending an entire day with Trump on Air Force One and later in the presidential limousine on the eve of the strikes. Cruz advised against further negotiations with Iran’s leadership, arguing the regime was negotiating in bad faith and was weaker than ever before. He emphasized Iran’s longstanding support for terrorism over the past 47 years as justification for aggressive military action.
Public and Poll Response
Despite Cruz’s assessment, recent polls indicate a majority of Americans oppose the strikes, with only about one-third saying the military action will make the U.S. safer. Forty-four percent believe the strikes reduce America’s safety, while 23% expect no change. Cruz maintained that the decimation of the Iranian regime by the strikes has enhanced U.S. security, fulfilling the president’s duties as commander in chief.
