The White House strongly rejected a Politico report claiming Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons was hospitalized twice for stress related to pressure from the Trump administration to escalate deportations. The report, citing unnamed current and former officials, said Lyons struggled under demands from top adviser Stephen Miller and was visibly upset, impairing his ability to make critical decisions.
Politico detailed one episode in September when Lyons became distressed during an ICE ride-along in Los Angeles, prompting his security detail to take him to a hospital overnight. The report also described heated phone calls between Lyons and Miller as contributing factors to Lyons’s stress.
In response, the White House labeled the story “trash reporting” and a divisive attempt to distract, affirming Lyons as an “American patriot” committed to enforcing immigration policies. White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson said Politico received “on record” denials before publication and called the article “inaccurate trash.” Katie Miller, wife of adviser Stephen Miller, also condemned the report on social media, dismissing it as false.
Jackson stated Lyons maintains a strong working relationship with the White House team to fulfill the administration’s enforcement goals. Fox News Digital has contacted ICE and Politico for further comment.
