London Court Sentences Russian Man to Four Years for Assault Witnessed by Barron Trump

A London court sentenced Matvei Rumiantsev, 23, to four years in prison for assaulting a woman during an incident witnessed by Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump, on a FaceTime call. The sentencing took place at Snaresbrook Crown Court on March 27, 2026.

Details

Rumiantsev, a Russian MMA fighter, was convicted on January 28 of assault causing bodily harm and perverting the course of justice. The latter charge stemmed from a letter he sent from jail asking the victim to retract her allegations. He was acquitted of rape and choking charges related to the same incident and of separate rape and assault allegations dating back to November 2024.

On January 18, 2025, Barron Trump, while in the United States, received a FaceTime call from the victim, whom he had met on social media. The call was briefly answered by Rumiantsev before the camera showed the woman being assaulted while crying and speaking in Russian. Trump immediately called London police, reporting the emergency and prompting their response and Rumiantsev’s arrest.

Justice Joel Bennathan criticized Rumiantsev’s lack of remorse during the trial, stating, “Your lack of insight and empathy was apparent at trial. You continue to try to blame the complainant for everything that has happened.” The judge also commended Barron Trump for his prompt and responsible action in alerting the authorities despite the geographical distance.

Rumiantsev admitted to feeling jealous of the victim’s friendship with Barron Trump but denied some of the more serious charges. His defense attorney, Sasha Wass, questioned the extent of what Barron Trump could have seen during the brief video call.

The case highlights an unusual cross-border intervention, with Barron Trump acting swiftly to ensure emergency services were notified.
