A Washington man with four prior felony convictions was charged on March 20 after allegedly shooting a teenager in the chest following a water balloon prank in Tacoma. Majeed Guerry, 31, faces attempted murder, assault, unlawful imprisonment, and unlawful possession of a firearm charges related to the incident on February 28.
Violent Retaliation After Neighborhood Prank
The incident began when four teenagers threw water balloons from their vehicle, one of which struck Guerry’s car and caused water to enter through an open window. According to court documents obtained by FOX 13, Guerry then chased the teens to a dead-end street near a dump site. There, he allegedly pistol-whipped the teenager who threw the balloon before shooting him in the chest. Guerry reportedly also robbed the group of $100 before fleeing the scene.
Police arrived shortly after 9 p.m. and found the teenagers inside the vehicle, with one suffering a gunshot wound. The injured teen was transported to a hospital and is expected to survive.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Authorities used surveillance cameras to track Guerry’s movements before and after the shooting, noting that he drove to a local casino after the incident. Guerry was taken into custody nearly three weeks later. Because of his prior convictions for assaults and protection order violations, Guerry is prohibited by law from possessing a firearm.
In court, Guerry pleaded not guilty to all charges. His bail was set at $150,000. Before being led out, he reportedly addressed supporters in the gallery, saying, “Come get me.” The Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has not issued a comment on the case.
