A recent poll conducted during the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) revealed that 96% of attendees approve of President Donald Trump’s job performance, underscoring his continued dominance within the conservative movement. The survey, which included more than 1,600 participants at the conference held March 25–28, also found that 94% consider Trump the best president in their lifetime.

Strong Conservative Backing for Trump’s Policies

The poll highlighted broad support among conservatives for Trump’s policy agenda. A significant 91% of respondents endorsed tariffs aimed at reducing the trade deficit and bolstering American workers and businesses. Additionally, 89% supported Trump’s military action in Iran designed to remove Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and halt the country’s nuclear program.

Support was also high for the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, with 92% backing the move. Other leading Republican figures received notable approval ratings: Vice President JD Vance earned 92%, House Speaker Mike Johnson 84%, and Senate Majority Leader John Thune 57%.

Leadership Preferences Within Trump’s Circle and GOP 2028 Outlook

Inside the administration, Secretary of State Marco Rubio emerged as the most favored Cabinet member, named as a favorite by 42% of respondents. He was followed in popularity by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard.

The poll also offered an early look at the potential Republican presidential primary for 2028. Vice President JD Vance leads with 53% support among conservative voters, while Rubio holds 35%. Other prospective contenders remain well behind.

CPAC Attendee Profile and Conference Context

Founded in 1964, CPAC is the nation’s oldest and largest conservative grassroots event, promoting principles of life, liberty, and property. The surveyed group was predominately from the Southern United States (86%) with an average age of approximately 49 years old.

Why it matters

The overwhelming approval for Trump among CPAC attendees signals his influential position within the conservative base ahead of the 2026 midterms and beyond. The strong support for military action in Iran and aggressive economic policies highlights the priorities likely to shape Republican strategies and messaging moving forward.

Additionally, Vice President JD Vance’s leadership favorability and early primary polling suggest he is positioning himself as a top contender for the GOP presidential nomination in 2028. This dynamic sets the stage for intra-party debates about the future direction of the Republican Party.
