Granitestone Sauté Pans Sold at Costco Recalled over Handle Caps Ejecting When Heated

A recall has been issued for approximately 740,000 Granitestone Diamond Pro Blue Stainless 10-inch and 11.5-inch sauté pans after multiple reports that metal caps on the handles heat up and “forcefully eject” during cooking. The company, E Mishan, which manufactures the pans, responded following at least 98 incident reports nationwide.

The pans were sold as a 2-piece set at Costco, Walmart.com, Amazon.com, and other retailers. The product is identified by UPC 0-80313-08131-6. Consumer complaints included one case of bruising and burn injuries caused by the ejecting metal cap.

E Mishan and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advised customers to immediately stop using the affected pans and to contact the company for a full refund.

The recall notice highlights a significant safety risk linked specifically to the handle caps. As the issue stems from heat causing the metal caps to detach uncontrollably, users could face injury from flying parts.

Why it matters

This recall is critical because it addresses a safety hazard in widely distributed kitchen cookware. The ejecting metal caps not only pose burn and impact injury risks but also illustrate the need for strict quality control in cookware design to prevent accidents during routine cooking. Consumers using these pans should act promptly to avoid injury.

Background

Granitestone Diamond Pro Blue Stainless sauté pans have been popular for their nonstick and durable properties. Sold through major retail chains including warehouse clubs and e-commerce platforms, their wide distribution increases potential exposure to the hazard. Cookware recalls related to handle defects are not uncommon, underscoring ongoing challenges in balancing heat resistance, user safety, and product durability in kitchen tools.
