Shooting at Edmond Lake Injures 12 at Party Near Oklahoma City

At least 12 people were injured in a shooting that occurred Sunday night at a party near Arcadia Lake in Edmond, a suburb north of Oklahoma City, police and hospital officials confirmed.

Edmond police received reports of gunfire at around 9 p.m. at a gathering of young people near the lake. Police spokesperson Emily Ward said no arrests had been made as of late Sunday night and that officers were interviewing victims and witnesses across the Oklahoma City metropolitan area to identify suspects.

“This is obviously a very terrifying situation and we understand the concern from the public and those involved,” Ward said, emphasizing the department’s efforts to apprehend those responsible. Victims were reported to be in varying conditions following the shooting.

Medical personnel treated 10 injured individuals at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City and three others at Integris Health Edmond Hospital. Officials said the patients were still being assessed late Sunday.

While police have not released detailed information about the party, a flyer circulated on social media indicated an event called “Sunday Funday” had been scheduled near Arcadia Lake, a recreational reservoir located about 13 miles north of Oklahoma City. The lake is known for fishing, boating, picnicking, and camping.

In response to the incident, authorities established a reunification center for families at a nearby Walmart, according to local CBS affiliate KWTV.

Background

Arcadia Lake is situated in Edmond, which has a population of approximately 100,000 residents. The city was previously the site of a high-profile workplace shooting in 1986, when postal worker Patrick Sherrill killed 14 co-workers and himself.

The current investigation remains active as police work to identify and apprehend those involved in Sunday night’s shooting.
