Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized and is currently in critical but stable condition, his spokesperson Ted Goodman confirmed on Sunday. The 81-year-old former mayor’s team did not specify the reason for his hospitalization.
Goodman described Giuliani as “a fighter” who has faced numerous challenges throughout his life and is now confronting this health crisis with the same determination. He requested prayers for Giuliani’s recovery.
Giuliani’s health incidents have included a serious car accident last year in New Hampshire, in which he suffered broken vertebrae and multiple other injuries, including lacerations and contusions to his left arm and lower leg.
Rudy Giuliani first rose to national prominence in the 1980s and 1990s as a New York City prosecutor before serving two terms as mayor. He gained widespread recognition for his leadership during and after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Following his mayoral tenure, Giuliani pursued a presidential bid in 2008.
More recently, he became a close ally of former President Donald Trump, playing a prominent role in challenging the 2020 presidential election results. Giuliani publicly promoted unfounded claims regarding election fraud, which led to his disbarment in New York and Washington, D.C., as well as a $148 million judgment against him related to false claims about Georgia election workers.
Despite the legal setbacks, Giuliani received a federal pardon from Trump in November 2025 alongside others associated with the false electors scheme. This pardon does not protect Giuliani from ongoing state-level charges in Georgia and Arizona.
In response to Giuliani’s hospitalization, Donald Trump posted on his Truth Social platform, praising Giuliani as “fabulous,” a “True Warrior,” and “the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR.”
