Spanish police have arrested Jonathan Andic, eldest son of Isak Andic, the billionaire founder of the fashion brand Mango, in connection with his father’s death nearly a year and a half ago. The arrest follows a homicide investigation into the circumstances surrounding Isak Andic’s fatal fall from a cliff in December 2024.
Isak Andic, 71, died after falling about 500 feet while hiking in the mountains near Barcelona with his son Jonathan, who was the sole witness to the incident. Initially, police opened and then closed an investigation shortly after the event, but authorities reopened the case in March 2025. By October 2025, the inquiry was classified as a possible homicide, leading to increased scrutiny.
Jonathan Andic, 45, was taken to court facilities in Martorell, a city in eastern Spain where the investigation is based. A spokesperson for the Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police, confirmed the arrest but noted that a nondisclosure order surrounds the case.
A family representative told Reuters that Jonathan Andic is cooperating fully with authorities and that the family remains confident in his innocence. Jonathan is not only the eldest of Isak Andic’s three children but also the vice chairman of Mango’s board, positioning him as one of his father’s heirs.
Background
Isak Andic’s family originally moved from Turkey to Spain during his youth. He founded Mango in Barcelona in 1984 and expanded it into a global fast-fashion retailer. As of 2026, Mango operates approximately 2,900 stores across 120 markets. The company posted record revenue of nearly 3.8 billion euros ($4.4 billion) in 2025, marking an 11% increase from the previous year.
